Brent and Shirley Rawstron planted their first vineyard in 1986, and were among the first people to plant Pinot Noir in Canterbury, New Zealand. In 1999, recognizing the growing importance of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc internationally, Brent purchased the first of five vineyards in Malborough. These vineyards form one large block in the heart of Rapara, a premium region for Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay in Marlborough.
Both Brent and Shirley gained their winemaking degrees from Lincoln University and consequently take an active role in the viticultural and wine making process. Additionally, they have employed the services of two-time New Zealand wine maker of the year Alan McCorkindale.
