Bedell Cellars is a pioneering, historic winery in the Long Island Wine Growing region. The estate was founded in 1980 by Kip and Susan Bedell, out of a passion for small production, hand-crafted wines. The pair brought along accomplished winemaker Richard Olsen-Harbich, who would eventually play a pivotal role in the 1986 establishment of the North Fork AVA.
The Bedell Cellars approach is an artful one - seamlessly defining a regional style by blending grapes grown in their maritime terroir. Richard’s focus is on Bordeaux varietals that are well suited to the Long Island climate, creating a consultation partnership with Château Margaux. Farming is certified sustainable, and Bedell was the first winery in the eastern United States to use entirely indigenous yeasts for fermentation.
Their wines are widely considered the benchmark for the region, so classic that they were served at the 2013 presidential inauguration (a first for a wine from New York state!). Each wine is clean and fresh, showcasing vivid fruit characteristics and elegant complexity.
