Château Landra was established in 2007 by Frédéric Landra, a renaissance man with tons of ambition. Originally trained as a geologist, his work allowed him to explore the world through travel, before he made a career change and opened a consulting firm. His firm allowed him enough success that he could realize his next dream of becoming a winemaker.
Frédéric worked alongside his wife Cécile to revitalize the historic and somewhat neglected land they’d chosen for Château Landra in the AOC Ventoux. Here they cultivated traditional Rhône varietals like Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Cinsault, Grenache Noir, and Syrah on gravel and sandy soils. Production has been certified organic since 2007.
Since 2016, the couple’s daughter Manon has slowly taken over production of the winery. After studying oenology, Manon became an accomplished winemaker in Australia and Chile. While working in the Southern Hemisphere, she gained access to winemaking techniques and styles not always implemented in her native France. Keeping with the ideals of her parents, production is limited with a focus on quality. All of Landra’s fruit is hand-harvested, with little to no intervention during fermentation. Different methods are employed depending on what the grapes and wines call for - some destemmed, some whole-bunch, and others co-fermented!
Château Landra’s wines are the epitome of what one might seek in a natural wine from the Rhône Valley. Lively, fruit-forward and easy to drink, while maintaining the minerality, structure, and tension that keeps things interesting.
