The Cordella estate was established in 1998 when Orlando Cordella granted the land to his daughter, Maddalena, who continues to oversee the winery to this day. Maddalena and her father had been selling their fruit until 2006, when they decided to vinify about 2 hectares themselves. The experiment was successful, and the family brought on oenologist Paolo Vagaggini to oversee the wine-making as they continued this new venture. In 2010 they built a new winery to expand their production, which now uses 9 hectares of harvested grapes.
The property is composed of 7 certified organic vineyards planted entirely with Sangiovese Grosso, all of which are worked completely by hand, from vine management to harvest. 8 hectares are dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino DOCG production, with 1 hectare for the Rosso di Montalcino, all of which are shown equal care and attention. In keeping with their company ethos, the winery and underground ageing cellar are built to minimize water and energy consumption and are certified as environmentally friendly by TUV.
