Established in 1892 in Ten'ei Village, Fukushima, Matsuzaki Sake Brewery thrives in a region aptly named as a village flourishing toward the sky. Nestled on the border of Fukushima Prefecture's Nakadori and the Ou Mountains, Ten'ei Village boasts breathtaking natural landscapes, from the Abukuma Highlands to the pristine lakeside and the majestic 1500m-class Ou Mountains. Despite being part of the same village, Ten'ei experiences significant variations in altitude and climate, leading to diverse agricultural products that rank among the best in Japan.
This long-established brewery, with a heritage spanning 130 years, encountered a pivotal moment after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Following the passing of a veteran sake brewer, Mr. Hiroyuki Matsuzaki, in his 20s at the time, assumed the role of the 6th generation chief brewer. Despite his youth, Hiroyuki's dedication to learning the art of sake brewing was remarkable. Selected by Fukushima Prefecture's Sake Academy and supported by peers and enthusiasts, he rapidly became a prominent figure in the sake world.
In a surprising turn, Hiroyuki clinched a gold medal at the National New Sake Awards in his first year, a feat he continues to achieve consistently. His accolades extend to the SAKE COMPETITION 2016 Daiginjo Grand Prix and a 2nd place in the 2015 Special Junmai Sake Award. Hirotogawa sake even earned a spot at the prestigious 2019 G20 Osaka Summit.
With an ever-evolving mastery and a growing fan base across Japan, Hirotogawa sake has become a highly sought-after gem. Its harmonious elements of sweetness, transparency, aroma, aftertaste, fruitiness, umami, and complexity converge into a masterpiece of Japanese sake. Embark on a journey to savor one of the finest and purest expressions of sake, crafted by the genius brewer, Hiroyuki Matsuzaki.
