Poderi Arcangelo is a renowned organic winery run by third-generation grower, Sandra Mora in the hills of Siena. Her grandfather, Giuseppe Mora started producing wine in 1956, from a small vineyard near the "Casa dell'Arcangelo". His son, Bruno, planted their best vineyards between 1995 and 2006. Since Sandra has taken over the reins of Podere Arcangelo, she has focused on producing wines from local grapes such as Ciliegiolo, Sangiovese, and their specialty, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, which accounts for half of their production in an average year.
The winery has been certified organic since 2000. Sandra believes in making wines of the utmost integrity by abandoning the use of herbicides and replacing chemical fertilizers with natural options. Poderi Arcangelo has a 50-kilowatt photovoltaic system that makes them entirely self-sufficient in their use of electricity, as well as a phytodepuration plant for waste-water treatment.
The property is located on hilly countryside, facing the historically picturesque village of San Gimignano at about 240 meters above sea level.. They are producing about 265,000 bottles of wine per year on their 25 hectares of estate vineyards.
