Quinta da Boa Esperança is located in the town of Zibreira, tucked away between the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Montejunto mountain range to the east. It’s fifteen hectares date back to 1914 when the first wine cellar was constructed on the property. One hundred years later in 2014 Artur Gama and Eva Moura Guedes acquired the the cellar and vineyards, enlisting the help of Paula Fernandes as winemaker. Together, Artur, Eva, and Paula believe in creating high quality wines that speak to the history of the vineyards.

The winery location between the sea and the mountains creates a unique microclimate where the vineyards are kept fresh and cool by the briny sea breeze, and are protected from harsh weather by the mountainous backdrop. Vines are planted on clay and limestone soils, which help to retain water during the rainy season, and release it during the summer heat, encouraging the slow, even ripening of fruit.

All work in the vineyards and the cellar is sustainable with little to no intervention, and biodiversity is encouraged. A hands off approach to winemaking, an ideal location, and a few drops of sunshine result in saline, fresh, mineral wines with unique character.
