Started in 2013 in Dalton, MA, Silver Bear is an artisanal distillery located in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, owned by Bjorn “Peter” and Cassandra Sternerup. Bjorn grew up on a farm and former distillery in Sweden, and has Swedish moonshining traditions in his blood. Cassandra also had an interest in the process, and once they met it was only natural to bring their love of artisanal spirits and cocktails together. Silver Bear is named for Bjorn (his name meaning ‘bear’ in Swedish) and his unmistakable silver hair.

Unlike most liqueur distillers, which usually just source a high proof neutral spirit, Silver Bear distills its own vodka to use as a base for its liqueurs, made from carefully sourced winter wheat. The wheat is lautered in house in the traditional Scottish and Irish way. This process gives the vodka a smoothness that shows through in their liqueurs.

Silver Bear works with local farms to source their wheat, as well as the maple for their maple liqueur. The coffee for the Kaffe liqueur comes from a local coffee roaster in Pittsfield, MA, therefore keeping their supply chain local and ensuring the highest of quality.
