Sobrero Francesco was established in 1940 in the Barolo commune of Castiglione Falletto, where they originally sold their fruit to established wineries. In 1960, brothers Settimo and Pier Franco took over production, and with tenacity and enthusiasm for winemaking, began bottling their own wine in 1960. The first vintage of Sobrero Francesco Barolo was released in 1964.

Thirty-six years later, Settimo’s son Flavio completed his studies in oenology and began overseeing all aspects of the winery. His expertise has allowed Sobrero Francesco to fastidiously expand, and they now farm 16 hectares of vineyards; 13 of which are located in Castiglione Falletto, and 3 in Canelli, dedicated to cultivating a modest production of Moscato.

In the yellow-reddish clay and gray marl soils of their vineyards, they grow Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo, where some vines are more than 75 years old. Traditional expressions of Barolo are bottled from 6 different ‘cru’ vineyards: Villero, Pernanno, Ornato, Piantà, Valentino, and Parussi. In the cellar, Flavio employs extended macerations (Villero for 50 days) and a mixture of stainless steel, concrete, and Slavonian oak are used for both fermentation and aging. The resulting wines exude qualities of freshness and elegance, underscored by the the character of old vines and unique terroir of Castiglione Falletto.
