Bovio Barolo Gattera 2013

James Suckling: 94 pts

Aromas of roses, cedar and cherries follow through to a full body. Firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Turns smoky and meaty at the finish. Drink or hold.

Wine Spectator: 91 pts

Aromas of rose, tar and licorice introduce this firmly structured red. A cherry note joins the party as this winds down on the gripping, chalky finish. Complex, with good balance, but needs time. Best from 2022 through 2036. 350 cases made.

International Wine Report: 93 pts

Sourced from the Gattera vineyard in La Morra, this Barolo was aged 24 months in Slavonian oak casks, 6 months in concrete tanks and 6 months in the bottle (no filtration pre-bottling). It displays a gorgeous classic Nebbiolo color, with lovely bricking around the edge. The aromas are beautiful, as nuances of dried strawberries and cherries come together with floral, leather, mint, citrus rind and crushed stones all come together to fill the glass. Elegant and refined, this is structured around fine, polished tannins, and demonstrates excellent tension and focus through the ultra-long finish. Overall all this is a beautifully made Barolo from the Bovio family which will evolve gracefully for years to come.
