Michel Chapoutier & Anne-Sophie Pic Cornas 2014

Vinous: 91 pts

(20 percent new oak) Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of ripe black and blue fruits are complemented by suave floral and peppery spice nuances. Palate-staining, expansive blackberry and boysenberry flavors show very good depth as well as energy thanks to a core of smoky minerality. Closes with powerful dark fruit thrust and smooth, slow-building tannins that fold quickly into the sappy dark fruit.

The vibrant, ruby-colored 2014 Cornas Bio is outstanding, with medium-bodied richness and depth, sweet tannin and perfumed notes of dried flowers, black raspberry, cassis and earth. I love the tannin quality and it’s already hard to resist. Coming from three different terroirs (sandy, granite and limestone), drink it over the coming 7-8 years.
